In una lavanderia a gettoni, due performer entrano legate dallo stesso abito. Insieme svuotano un’asciugatrice, riempiendo un carrello di vestiti.
Quando estraggono un lenzuolo, iniziano a cercare modi insoliti per piegarlo: non gesti domestici, ma tentativi di inventare un nuovo linguaggio comune.
Il vincolo che le costringe diventa occasione di ascolto e sperimentazione: tra inciampi e complicità, l’azione quotidiana si trasforma in rito.

In a self-service laundromat, two performers enter bound by the same garment. Together they empty a dryer, filling a cart with clothes.
When they pull out a bedsheet, they explore unusual ways of folding it: not domestic gestures but attempts to invent a shared language. The constraint that binds them becomes an opportunity for listening and experimentation; through stumbles and complicity, daily action turns into ritual.

In you I mirror myself
Una performance artistica che esplora il concetto di compassione attraverso il suono, il movimento e il simbolismo.
La lastra di ottone richiama le coperte dorate usate per soccorrere le vittime di incidenti o naufragi.
Il suo suono metallico, oscillante tra vibrazione e risonanza, rappresenta il fragile equilibrio tra presenza e assenza, protezione e vulnerabilità.
La scelta dell’improvvisazione sonora permette alla performer di connettersi intimamente con la vibrazione della parola “compassione”, traducendola in un’esperienza sensoriale e collettiva.
Compassione non consola.
Brucia.
È stare dove l’altro cade.
Senza distanza.
Senza scuse.
È sentire l’eco del tuo dolore nel petto
di un altro.
E non fuggire.
È tuono.
È silenzio.
È luce che passa dalla ferita.
Compassione non salva.
Apre.
Purifica.
Unisce.
Compassione è l’espressione più sottile
e potente dell’umano.

A performance that explores the concept of compassion through sound, movement and symbolism. The brass plate recalls the golden emergency blankets used to assist victims of accidents or shipwrecks.
Its metallic sound, oscillating between vibration and resonance,represents the fragile balance between presence and absence, protection and vulnerability.
Compassion does not comfort.
It burns.
It is staying where the other falls.
Without distance.
Without excuses.
It is feeling the echo of your pain in another’s chest.
It is thunder.
It is silence.
It is light passing through a wound.
Compassion does not save.
It opens.
It purifies.
It unites.
Compassion is the most subtle and powerful expression of the human.

IL VUOTO CHE HAI LASCIATO - presenza, assenza e calzini spaiati
Pensato per un luogo specifico – una lavanderia a gettoni – questo progetto si collega al tema del ‘fantomatico’ calzino spaiato, che misteriosamente scompare dopo il lavaggio. Dove sarà finito?
È una domanda che ci viene spontanea, ma a cui spesso non sappiamo rispondere. Una domanda che l’artista si pone anche riguardo alla recente perdita del padre, di cui restano, tra le altre cose, calzini in coppia e spaiati di vario tipo. In questo contesto, i calzini diventano il simbolo dello spaesamento che la perdita porta con sé, raccontando il vuoto lasciato dall’assenza.

THE VOID YOU LEFT BEHIND – presence, absence and mismatched socks
Conceived for a specific site - a coin-operated laundromat – this project engages with the theme of the “phantom” mismatched sock, the one that mysteriously disappears after washing. Where has it gone?
It is a question that comes naturally to us, yet one we often cannot answer. A question the artist also asks herself in relation to the recent loss of her father, from whom there remain, among other things, pairs of socks and single, mismatched ones of various kinds. In this context, the socks become a symbol of the sense of disorientation that loss brings with it, giving form to the void left by absence.

Legami
Questo lavoro nasce sulle colline della città natale della performer e si lega profondamente al tema delle radici: un ritorno fisico e simbolico alla terra d’origine, inteso come gesto di ricongiungimento con sé stessa, con la memoria e con una dimensione primordiale.
Al centro della ricerca emerge la catenella di spago, intrecciata a mano, gesto antico del creare, legare e unificare. Le catenelle diventano segni ambivalenti: da un lato connessione, relazione e continuità, dall’altro catena, vincolo e tensione. In questa duplicità si riflette il femminile come spazio complesso, capace di accogliere forza e vulnerabilità, autonomia e legame.
Le catenelle legano voci femminili, l’artista alla terra e alla materia originaria, formando intrecci e gomitoli che evocano forme organiche, simili a uova fecondate, simboli di possibilità e generazione.

Bonds
This work originates in the hills of the performer’s hometown and is deeply connected to the theme of roots: a physical and symbolic return to the land of origin, conceived as a gesture of reconnection with herself, with memory, and with a primordial dimension.
At the core of the research emerges the chain of twine, handwoven—an ancient gesture of creating, binding, and unifying. These chains become ambivalent signs: on one hand connection, relationship, and continuity; on the other, constraint, tension, and bond. Within this duality, the feminine is revealed as a complex space, capable of holding both strength and vulnerability, autonomy and connection.
The chains link female voices, the artist to the earth and to primordial matter, forming knots and skein-like shapes that evoke organic forms, resembling fertilized eggs—symbols of possibility and generation.

Eugenia
(Eu)genia, dal greco eugenes (“ben nata”), è una performance che racconta un ritorno alle proprie radici e ai gesti tramandati nel tempo. Paki Paola Bernardi, insieme alle altre due performer, riprende un gesto insegnato da Eugenia: creare una catenella di spago. Un gesto semplice e antico che diventa simbolo dei legami tra le persone e della trasmissione tra generazioni.
La catenella unisce passato e presente e fa emergere frammenti di memoria legati alla nonna Eugenia, come parole che si intrecciano. La performance inizia nel buio: le ombre delle tre donne intrecciano il cordoncino, entrando e uscendo dalla luce, come a riannodare legami invisibili ma profondi. La catenella diventa così simbolo di una connessione che unisce tutti.

(Eu)genia, from the Greek eugenes (“well-born”), is a performance that explores a return to one’s roots and to gestures passed down over time. Paki Paola Bernardi, together with two other performers, revisits a gesture taught to her by Eugenia: creating a chain of twine. A simple, ancient act that becomes a symbol of human connection and of transmission across generations.
The chain links past and present, bringing forth fragments of memory connected to her grandmother Eugenia, like words that intertwine. The performance begins in darkness: the shadows of the three women weave the cord, moving in and out of the light, as if retying invisible yet profound bonds. The chain thus becomes a symbol of a connection that unites us all.
